Protective Intelligence Network & UN Agency IOM Malaysia: "Intelligence Gathering and Investigation on Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons at Sea" Course

In February 2018 Protective Intelligence Network trainers supported IOM Malaysia in delivering three training courses for the benefit of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency. The courses were accomplished in Kuching, Ipoh and Malacca. The principal objective of the training aimed to enhance the intelligence information and evidence gathering accomplished by the participants in the frame of investigations related to human trafficking at sea.
The training stressed the importance of information sharing with particular focus in “proactive vs reactive” gathering of information and evidence acquisition activities.
Dry exercises and simulations aimed to enhance investigative observation & searching of element of crime skills were also proposed, and very well received by the participants.
The Training programme is funded by the Government of Canada and Implemented by the International Organization for Migration, in cooperation with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency
