Social Media Intelligence Exploitation Training Course for Hong Kong Intelligence Practitioners

During the last days, Protective Intelligence Network instructors provided a customised training on "Open Source Intelligence & Social Media Intelligence Exploitation for Security and Intelligence Practitioners” for the benefit of Hong Kong Intelligence officers. The training was conducted in Singapore.
The training aimed to provide trainees with the practical knowledge of tools and lawful techniques in order to make full use of and derive benefit from different open source platforms in the frame of criminal, security and intelligence investigations.
OSINT, or Open Source Intelligence, is an intelligence discipline that involves the collection, analysis, and interpretation of information from publicly available sources. These sources can include websites, social media platforms, news articles, academic papers, public records, and more.
Open Source Intelligence plays a crucial role in modern intelligence and security operations, providing valuable insights to governments, law enforcement agencies, businesses, researchers, and individuals.
It allows Intelligence agencies to quickly access and analyze information without the need for elaborate and time-consuming classified operations. This is especially crucial in situations where timely information is essential.
OSINT discipline may provide context to classified intelligence by incorporating publicly available information.
It can be used to monitor the activities of foreign governments, shady organisations and individuals. This can provide insights into their intentions, capabilities, and potential threats.
This contextual understanding can enhance the accuracy and depth of the analysis of classified information.
The harmonious interaction of OSINT & SOCMINT with other methods of intelligence collection, including HUMINT (Human Intelligence), SIGINT (Signals Intelligence), and GEOINT (Geospatial Intelligence), results in the formation of a thorough and precise intelligence representation.
